Synopsis: This text provides readers with fun facts and colorful pictures that introduce them to penguins. Information on penguin behavior, physical characteristics, and their habitat is provided throughout the text.

Rationale for Use: This scholastic reader is a great nonfiction text to use with early elementary readers. There are several other nonfiction texts on penguins that could be used to compare and contrast with this text and the information provided in this text.

Common Core Connection: RI 1.9: Identify basic similarities in and differences between two texts on the same topic (e.g., in illustrations, descriptions, or procedures).
