Reading Level: 5th grade

Synopsis:  This remarkable, well written biography of Bass Reeves was interesting to read.  It has lots of great vocabulary and spoke of many great character traits of this man, born a slave in Texas in 1838 and the events of his life through 1910.  This book is a Coretta Scott King Award winner.

Classroom Rationale:  This book could be used in a biography unit or to further explore African American History. 

CCSS.RI.5.9-Integrate information from several texts on the same topic in order to write or speak about the subject knowledgeably.
