“A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest.” ~C.S. Lewis

Bear Feels Scared

Bear Feels Scared by:  Karma Wilson,  Illustrations by:  Jane Chapman  Scholastic Inc., 2008, 30 pp

Reading Level:  600L

Synopsis: Bear Feels Scared is another story about Bear.  In this picture book Bear is out for a walk and gets lost on his way home.  As it starts to storm, Bear gets scared and his friends that are at home begin to worry about him. His friends come to find him and help him get home where he feels safe.

Rationale for Use in the Classroom:  Since this is a rhyming book it would be good to use when teaching children about rhyming words.  Also it would be good to use for a discussion on feelings and how friends can help us.

Common Core:  I think this book would be a good one to help describe the relationships between the pictures and the text.  It could also be used with the science curriculum when talking about weather.
